these are some of the most beautiful and creative gardens I have seen at a garden show...love those vertical garden walls...

Gardening Definitons

PERENNIAL - A plant that survives year after year in the garden.

ANNUAL - A plant that completes it's life cycle in one year or less.

BIENNIAL - A plant that completes it's life cycle over two years. The first year it produces foliage and the second year it produces fruit, flowers and seeds then dies.

STANDARD - A woody plant trained to one single trunk.

DEADHEADING - removing aging flowers before they set seed. Keeps the plant flowering longer.

CULTIVAR - Any plant name enclosed in single quotes like "New Dawn". A cultivated variety by selection, cloning or inbred seed.

HEIRLOOM - A variety that has been around for generations with superior taste, adaptions to local climate and has disease or pest resistanance.

Ph - A measure of acidity or alkalinity in soil. Ph ranges from 0 to 14 with below 7 being acid and above 7 indicating alkalinity.

PINCH - To prune with your fingers.

B&B - Balled and Burlaped

TOP DRESS - To spread manure, compost or fertilizer on top of the soil not disturbing roots.

ALKALINE - pH value above 7.

SPORT - Mutation of a plant. A genetic change in a parent plant producing a shoot different from the parent plant.

MONOECIOUS. - Separate male and female flowers on same plant.

DIOECIOUS - Male and female parts on separate plants. Both plants are needed to produce fruit.
