Garden Blogger's Bloom Day - September 2012

Another month has flown by and it is time for Garden Blogger's Bloom Day.  We have been receiving normal rainfall again and the garden has been responding well  to cooler temperatures.  I did have some drought damage and I lost one shrub and one very old tree.  Everything has greened up and is looking very good considering twelve weeks of no rain.  I did have lots of damage to my hostas this year due to slugs, drought and high temperatures.

I continue to prepare the gardens for that special event that is coming up shortly and I will write about it at a later date. I have spent a lot of time preparing the garden and hope for the weather not to turn cold to soon.

I have almost completed the "Fairy Garden" and it is totally mossed now.  After working with the moss, I have decided to moss my Japanese garden. That will be a long process over several years to plant and let the moss spread, but the effect will be beautiful. Watch for the post on the Fairy Garden next month.

Here are some pictures on how my garden is doing this Garden Blogger's Bloom Day.

The perennial garden is blooming with lots of yellow, purple and white flowers.

I have three beauty berry shrubs in the garden and they are all covered in those beautiful purple berries.

My lantana is still blooming and I have really enjoyed this plant in the garden for it's wonderful color.  This lantana is called 'Luscious Berry Blend' from Proven Winners.  This was a trial plant from them and it performed very well.  I planted one in the ground and one in a container.  I plan to move them into the greenhouse to enjoy them this winter and next year.

My tropicals are still blooming like hibiscus and bougainvilleas. They will be moving to the greenhouse shortly for their winter rest.

This was a new plant I grew this year.  It is a fig and it did produce fruit.

These were two new plants for this year that I had in containers.  The coleus at the bottom of the picture on the left is a trial plant from Proven Winners called 'Colorblaze Marooned'.  I really liked the color on this one.  The colocasia in the picture is 'Eleana' from Brent and Becky's Bulbs.  I loved the colors of these two plants together in a container.

My passion plant bloomed more this year than previous years but I did not have fruit this year.

The 'Sweet Autumn' clematis is blooming and filling in the arbors where the roses are out of bloom.

The butterfly bushes have really put on a show this year, however I did not have as many butterflies as normal.

This fungi was growing  in the garden on a rotten tree stump.  The color was a beautiful orange. It is kind of ugly yet uniquely beautiful.

Well that's about it for this Garden Blogger's Bloom Day.  I hope you have a wonderful Fall gardening season and check back for future posts.

Happy Gardening!

Debbie

Sweet Autumn clematis is by far one of my favourite vines. Right up to frost here it drapes over a trellis while sending out a sweet aroma. I also like the purity of it's white.
